Complicated Issues Of Ground For Audio!

In general, the objective of ground for electric apparatus in general is prevention of electric shocks. Particularly, as wet human bodies are easily electrified, you may notice that ground terminals are equipped in outlets around water areas, such as around refridgerator, microwave oven, washing machine, etc. Ground is important in regard to the sound quality of audio systems. In many cases, musical signals are expressed and transmitted as the forms of electric voltage differences from the standard potential, which thus must be stable. Also, if the standard potential of each equipment differs, electric current rises on the cable for musical signal transmission, which is thought to deteriolate the audio sound quality. Reading so far, if you think "Wow, when I built my house, I should have equipped ground terminals in my audio room..." you are wrong. Using the earth arranged within walls is not a good idea having a lot of side effects, as it is contaminated with the noises from the refridgerator which runs 24 hours. What you should do then, is to dig a hole in your garden, and bury a ground bar which conncected to your audio equipments. However, one of the downsides of this is the quite expensive fees, if you hire the professionals. But, as the ground performances depend on the nature of dirt, you do not know if it would be enough good, until it is finished. There is a small current from the ground bar to the bottom of utility pole, so you would make a large circuit consisting of utility pole, electric wire, house, and ground bar. In the begining, many who live in apartments do not have a garden of their own, and cannot even test it. Furthermore, there is a very complicated issue of earth loops. By connecting to earth, a circuit including the signal line arises, and a current appears from the high potential to the low one, and contaminate the signals. For this matter, there is not complete understanding of the issues, nor solutions for them. High spec. equipments which controld the sound delicately, are said to be more vulnerable to earth loops, and there are some technical audiophiles who assert that ground should not be used at all.

Here Comes Virtual Ground!

So, recent years, virtual ground is explored by audiophiles. It is not to connect a ground wire to a ground bar or earth line of power supply, but to connect to things with large capacities, or than is said to have negative potentials, in order to reduce and stabiize the electric potentials of audio equipments. In many cases, it is a large bin for plum brandy filled with Japanese quality chacoal named "Binchotan," and tourmaline mineral ore which has negative eletcric potentials, and a rolled coppler plate is inserted in it to contact with these materials. Those are made by fanatic audiophiles. This large bins tend to be placed in the audio room to minimize the length of ground wires for fear of anntenna effects on those, and the aestheticy is out of discussions. There are a few marketed products of virtual ground by aduio accessary firms. Virtual ground of large wood boxes filled with minerals, such as gold, silver, and copper is sold at a few hundred thousand yen, and a palm sized one of natual ore rounded by copper plate is sold at a few ten thousands yen. The prices are the issue. Please note that virtual ground does not work to prevent electrical shocks, which is the original purpose of earth.

Invisible! New cheeTarh Carpet-Style Virtual Ground, "Capé-À"

Carpet-style virtual ground is a very original and unique idea of cheeTarh Consulting, and is registered as Utility Model at Japan Patent Office. When I was testing verious materials and forms as virtual ground, I found that the capacity of virtual ground is more associated with the sizes of horizontal areas than cubic measures or weights. Also, EMC material which is semiconductor, holding the reduding electric potential, can work as superior virtual ground, although the wieight is very small. Then, cheeTarh Carpet-Style Virtual Ground was developped. The base material is a sheet containing powdered Binchotan, which is commonly used in virtual ground. The size of horizontal area is very large, and uncomparable to existing virtual ground. On it, naked ground wire contancts as long as possible to EMC material, which holds the earth electric potential, widely and horizontally. EMC material, on the other hand, block 99.5% of high frequency electromagnetic waves and prevent annenna effects, which you might worry about. It holds the earth electric potential widely, and horizontally, thus, the electric potential of connected audio equipments are effectively and stably reduced. Putting  heavy carpet tiles or tapis on carpet-style virtual ground would make sure all inner matterials to be attached cohesively, and the effectiveness to be assured. If you ask me, the recommendation is Interface carpet tile, which is sold by cheeTarh Consulting, as well. The sounds of this literally "invisible" virtual ground is quietness with sharpness and strain. cheeTarh Consulting strongly recommend this with proud.

※ The chances are slim, but in order to avoid the damages to human bodies by thunder surge, please disconnect cheeTarh Carpet-Style Virtual Ground from audio before such weather.

※ Perpendicular usgae, such as on wall, would lose the effects. In theory, putting it on ceiling is OK.

※ As for the foot comfortableness, as the ground wire is fiberlized, you do not feel undulation on a carpet or a rug.

※ Measuring the electic potentials of audio equipments while you are on carpet-style virtual ground would cause abnormally reduced potential meaurements. Please note this as the effects could be over-estimated.

※ As you see, the product at this moment is made by taping the materials, so please do not expect much on esthetics. Being covered by another carpet, it would not deterioate your room interior.
